Scholarship Program
The purpose of the NCTOH Scholarship Program is to help improve and sustain the effectiveness and reach of tobacco control programs and activities in the United States and increase participation in the conference by individuals to whom registration fees present a barrier to attendance. The Scholarship Program strives to promote effective action after the conference, not just participation at the conference.
How to Apply for a Scholarship
The Scholarship Program of the National Conference on Tobacco or Health has funds to offer scholarships to conference participants in relevant fields who would not be able to attend without some financial assistance. The scholarship will be a waiver of the National Conference registration fee.
If you intend to apply for a scholarship, please apply before registering for the conference.
If you pay the registration fee and later obtain a scholarship, the registration fee will not be refunded.

download a scholarship application form. Scholarship applications will be accepted from December 1, 2008, through February 28, 2009.
Individuals new to tobacco control.Representatives or staff from small, community-based organizations.Representatives or staff in organizations that are not currently working in tobacco control, but 
that plan to do so in the near future.Tobacco control advocates, educators, researchers, full-time students*, and others who work in tobacco control but who lack the funds to attend the National Conference.The Scholarship Subcommittee, guided by the criteria listed below, will have sole discretion in the selection of scholarship recipients.The following criteria will be used to select scholarship recipients. Preference will be given to applicants who meet some or all of these criteria. The more criteria an applicant meets, the higher the chance of obtaining a scholarship.
Applicant has an opportunity to improve a tobacco control program or activity, plans to do so after the conference, and makes a clear case that the conference will help in this effort.Applicant is a new attendee at a tobacco control conference.Applicant is a leader or representative of a community-based tobacco control organization, or an organization that can contribute to community tobacco control objectives, with an annualprogram budget of $50,000 or less.Applicant is a leader or representative of an organization whose constituency includes population groups that are currently disproportionately affected by, or underrepresented within,the tobacco control movement.Scholarship applications must be received no later than February 28, 2009. All applicants will be notified of their status the week of March 31, 2009. Failure to meet the notification deadline will result in the withdrawal of the scholarship application.
Final confirmation of your registration is pending based on scholarship award status. If you are not awarded a scholarship and you applied before the early bird registration deadline (February 28, 2009), you will be offered the early bird registration rate.
